The Reformation Heroes

Martin Luther may have been the Father of the Reformation, but there were others, whose support helped to make the Reformation a movement that changed the world.

His greatest friend was the love of his life, Katharina von Bora, the former nun who became his wife.  

A former pupil and a man of great intellect, Philipp Melanchthon provided advice and friendship.

The painter Lucas Cranach the Elder was a friend and supporter of Luther and his wife. His paintings reflected Luther’s teachings and had a radical effect on art.

Although he lived two centuries after Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the greatest composers in history and a fervent Lutheran. Born in Eisenach, he embraced Luther’s passion for music, creating some of the most inspiring compositions ever written.
