Follow the Luther Rose along a hiking trail that traverses Germany to bring travelers to every city, town, and village that played an important role in Luther's life. About 1,000 miles of this trail are located right here in LutherCountry, beginning in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, where you can visit the former Augustinian Monastery where Luther lived as a monk. From there, you'll find yourself hiking past other LutherCities such as Dessau-Roßlau, Lutherstadt Eisleben, Mansfeld-Lutherstadt, Halle (Saale), and Erfurt, each of which has their own unique Reformation story to tell. The city of Erfurt has even developed a special "Luther Mile", which leads hikers directly through the city past various historically significant buildings, churches, and museums.

Another fantastic option for a pilgrimage through LutherCountry is the famous Way of St. James; this ancient network of pilgrimage routes just so happens to cross right through LutherCountry and past Reformation cities like Magdeburg and Lutherstadt Eisleben. And let's not forget the Rennsteig, Germany's oldest, most well-known hiking trail. This is a great option in every season, leading you past cities like Eisenach and Schmalkalden, as well as through the enchanting landscape of the Thuringian Forest, Franconian Forest, and Thuringian Schiefergebirge Mountains. The entire region also boasts a broad range of hiker-friendly accommodation options, allowing you to pack light and sleep easy.

Don't just follow in Luther's footsteps while you're here – leave a few of your own!
